You have exceeded the maximum number of hashtags in text + comments

Most social networks have limitations on the number of hashtags that can be used in posts. Exceeding these limits can prevent your post from being published.

Possible reasons

  • Too many hashtags in your post — Different social networks have different limits on the number of hashtags you can use.
  • Character limit for hashtags — Some platforms limit the total number of characters in hashtags.
  • Combined limits between post text and comments — Some networks count hashtags from both the post text and comments together.

Instagram-specific limitations

Instagram has particularly strict hashtag policies:

  • Maximum 30 hashtags total — Instagram counts hashtags from both the post text and the first comment together. Even if each section individually is within limits, the combined total cannot exceed 30 hashtags.
  • Character limit of 2200 — Instagram also limits the total number of characters in hashtags to 2200 symbols for both post text and first comment separately.

What to do?

  • Check platform-specific limits — Research the hashtag limitations for the specific social network you're posting to.
  • Reduce the total number of hashtags — For Instagram, make sure the combined number of hashtags in your post text and first comment does not exceed 30.
  • Check hashtag distribution — If you have hashtags in both the post text and comments, consider moving or redistributing them to stay within the platform's limits.
  • Prioritize important hashtags — Choose the most relevant hashtags for your content rather than using the maximum allowed number.
  • Consider using fewer, more targeted hashtags — Using fewer, more relevant hashtags can sometimes be more effective than using the maximum number allowed.
