Why was a VK clip published as a regular video instead of a clip?
VK Clips are not officially supported in the API. VK does not provide a way to reliably target the "Clips" section when publishing via third‑party services.
The platform has its own mechanism/algorithm that, based on a number of internal signals (format, duration, aspect ratio, metadata, etc.), decides where to place the video: in "Clips" or in "Videos".
As a rule, vertical or square videos up to 1 minute long end up in "Clips". However, sometimes VK’s algorithm decides otherwise, and the publication comes out as a regular video — there is no way to influence this.
This choice is not controllable from the side of third‑party services.
We prepare and send VK the file and publication parameters so that they meet the requirements of the "Clips" algorithm. But the final decision is always up to VK — we cannot override it.
Below are the responses from VKontakte support on this issue.
