How do Instagram Trial Reels work?

Trial Reels is an Instagram feature that allows you to test a video on an audience that does not follow you before publishing it for your followers.

When you create such a post, it does not appear in your main feed and profile for followers during the test period.

Conversion modes to a regular post

When publishing Trial Reels, Instagram offers to choose how the video will become available to everyone (including your followers):

  1. Manually — you decide when to make the video regular. This is done directly in the Instagram app: you need to go to the settings of a specific Reel and select the "Share to everyone" option.
  2. Based on results (automatically) — Instagram will automatically publish the video to your feed and profile if it shows good reach and engagement results among non-followers within the first 72 hours.

Currently, it is impossible to convert a post from trial mode to regular mode via API (and, accordingly, through third-party services). This can only be done automatically by Instagram itself or manually in the official app.
