Why is there a black screen instead of a video in the editor?

When uploading a video to the publication editor, you may encounter a situation where a black screen is displayed instead of the image.

Why does this happen?

Most often, this is because the video was uploaded in .mov format.

Codecs in some browsers do not support direct playback of this format in the preview window. This is a technical feature of how browsers work with this type of file.

How to fix it?

Use the .mp4 format — it is universal and supported by all modern browsers.

If you upload a video in .mp4 format, it will be displayed correctly in the editor.

If your video is already in .mp4 format, but the black screen still appears, it might be due to specific codecs. In this case, try reformatting the video (from mp4 to mp4) using any video converter or video editor. This will update the codecs, and the video should start displaying correctly.
