Why might the quality of photos or videos be lower than expected when downloading?

This guide explains why the resulting file may appear lower quality than the image in the editor, and how to avoid quality loss.

The problem

The original file was uploaded in low quality.

Postmypost does not modify uploaded images.

If a user uploads a low-resolution image, that is the file they will download after editing.

The editor does not degrade the original—the quality is determined entirely by the uploaded image.

Vector elements in the editor appear better than the resulting file.

In the editor, vector objects (shapes, text, icons) appear perfectly sharp at any zoom level.

However, when exporting:

  • the resulting file becomes a raster file (JPEG/PNG);
  • all vector elements are converted to raster;
  • the quality of rasterized elements depends on the quality of the original image.

If the original file was small, the vector will also look worse after export—it "adapts" to the lower resolution.

If the original image had been of high quality, the final image would have looked much better.

What to do?

Upload an image of the right size

Recommended minimum resolution: at least 1080 pixels wide.

If the original file is small (for example, 407x724 pixels), the final image will always be blurry.

It is impossible to enlarge a small image without loss.

Important conclusion

  • Postmypost does not reduce the quality of uploaded files.
  • The low quality of the final image is due only to the insufficient quality of the original.
  • Vector elements cannot improve the quality of a weak image—when exported, they are converted to a raster of the same quality.
